I have been a huge fan of the Brooklyn based funk/soul/latin label Truth & Soul since its inception in 2004. Leon Michels and crew have that raw, rusty feel similar to the Datptone crew gives it a warm groove. There is some exceptional music in here such as Timmy McNealy's Al Green and Marvin Gaye covers and his classic Sagittarius Black (and rap), the funk legend Lee Fields whose recently released album secured his place in music history and house band Expressions/El Michels Affair dope Isaac Hayes and Wu Tang licks. There a few extras like the pre T&S label - Soul Fire that they have re-released and some killer covers and remixes of Amy Whinehouse and Gabriella Climi where T&S take out the pop and insert serious grit.
